Revolution and Counterrevolution in America, A Marxist Perspective Part One: The First American Revolution

i just finished reading part one of the book "Revolution and Counterrevolution in America, A Marxist Perspective" by John Peterson as part of political reading for the organization i'm a part of. in general, it's important to be well-read and engage with multiple perspectives on topics before coming to conclusions, especially on the subject of politics, but for a revolutionary communist, reading has to come naturally to us and is as essential as breathing air. we are constantly reading classic Marxist literature, as well as perspectives from our comrades. this book is on the revolutionary history of the United States, the unfinished nature of the revolutions that took place, and looking forward to a third socialist revolution in the home of the heart of capitalism.

we finished reading the first part, focusing on the American Revolutionary War, which brought about U.S. independence from Great Britain and was the inspiration behind great revolutions like the French Revolution and inspired leadership the world over. i am, admittedly, in my late twenties, and don't remember anything about the American Revolution from my time in middle or high school, so most if not all of this section was a delightful refresher on U.S. history in general, but the best part is that this book is a historical recount through a Marxist lense, focusing on the relations of the working class of colonists with the land, the native Americans, the growing merchant population, and with Britain.

one of the most interesting analyses from the get-go was the breakdown of regional differences based not on which colonies were which, but means of production and relationship with the Crown. for example, the area i live in was described as "
